States of emergency was declared on Monday in California & Illinois due to outbreaks, followed by New York, which declared the same on Friday.
There are 5,811 cases of monkeypox nationwide in the United States, and more than 22,000 cases worldwide.
California Governor Gavin Newsom said on Monday that the emergency declaration will help his state protect itself from the virus through vaccination & education.

As a result of Newsom's announcement, emergency medical personnel have the right to administer monkeypox vaccines in the state, provided they are federally approved.
In addition to declaring a state of emergency, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker declared his own state to be a disaster-stricken area for the disease, where 10% of cases have emerged.
